“In BOMB DOG, Andrew Higgins expertly weaves some fearsomely complex history into an irresistibly absorbing plot that unfurls like a runic scroll, revealing ever more secrets as it rolls out to a taut and dramatic conclusion. This novel is as thoughtful as it is propulsive, with a nuanced philosophical and religious sensibility that calls Graham Greene to mind, mixing the sacred and the profane as Earth-bound characters scrabble toward unflinching reality with an eye on redemption and the sublime. Throughout, Higgins channels the restrained emotional power of Hemingway’s memory-haunted protagonists. This is a powerful debut by a genuine talent.”

Michael O’Malley stops bombs. He wants to go home, but the bombs just keep coming. And when his immigrant parents are killed in an accident in Cleveland, suddenly he finds he has no home to go back to. As disillusioned with endless wars as he is with the divided country that sent him to fight them, he sets off for his parents’ native Ireland in search of a heritage unhad. But when his search leads him to a mysterious commune on the unmarked Irish border, he meets a woman who reveals a hidden world of unforgotten causes—and an enigmatic leader whose connection to Michael’s family so shocking that he may just wish to forget.

In the spirit of Vince Gilligan, Graham Greene, and Flannery O’Connor, BOMB DOG is a literary debut as darkly comic as it is a pulse-pounding thriller—a postmodern odyssey to the edge of belonging and home.
